Male versus Female Vocal Range

One may ask, I need to know how to increase my vocal range? Well, it depends, are you male or female? A man’s voice type falls in one of four categories. From lowest to highest pitch, these are bass, baritone, countertenor, and tenor. Most men have a baritone voice.

Women’s voices fall into one of three categories. From lowest to highest pitch, these are contralto, mezzo-soprano, and soprano. Most women have a mezzo-soprano voice, but it is not uncommon for it to skew a little bit into the contralto or soprano ranges.

Children’s voices are not distinguished by gender, since they are similar in pitch before puberty. This high pitch category is called treble.
