Friends Don’t Understand Panic Attacks

I have been living with panic attacks all my adult life. It is so hard to explain to people that having an attack is not just in my mind and that being told to “calm down” does not help. When your heart is beating double time, you start sweating and you have a feeling of impending doom, hearing someone say “you’re fine” does not help me. I know there is no way to Cure Panic Attacks and I tell my friends this but some of them feel that I enjoy the attention, which is funny because I just need to be left alone when I’m in the midst of an attack so I can just get through it.
