What Happens to Parish and Bell?
A ‘foot orthotic’ firm in the UK that supposedly used high pressure sales techniques and made strong guarantees but also appeared to be charging extraordinary high prices for their foot orthotics were the Parish and Bell. They leave a numbers of unhappy people that promises were made to when they went bankrupt. What this case showed up is the unregulated and cowboy nature of the foot orthotic industry. What happens here is that anyone can just use and prescribe foot orthotics and you do not need to be registered or licensed as a health professional to use them. Podiatrists, physiotherapists and other who use them are registered so are accountable for a duty-of-care. What happens in the case of Parish and Bell is that no one is being held accountable.
