Some important characteristics of acid reflux or gastro reflux disease are chronic symptoms and mucosal damage due to abnormal reflux in esophagus. Pondering on why acid reflux is called gastro esophageal reflux disease, it was found that during acid reflux, the digestive juices also regurgitate along with the food. Acid reflux can be mainly attributed to the changes that occur in the barrier separating the stomach from the esophagus, which can be temporary or permanent. Apart from heart burns and regurgitation that are indicators of acid reflux, dysphagia, caused due to troubled swallowing also is an instrumental symptom.
Irritation of the chest and throat is due to the refluxed stomach acid touching the esophagus?s lining leading to heartburns.
