Probiotic Research is Still Up and Coming
Probiotic research is still in its earliest stages, but it focuses on several specific ailments or conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, lactose intolerance, and even prevention of colon cancer. Benefits in terms of lowering high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels are still in the speculative phases. There is also speculation that probiotic supplements can fight inflammation and improve the absorption of minerals. Preliminary studies in rats showed that stress induced gastrointestinal problems can be avoided with probiotic supplementation. Strains of lactobacillus appear to be among the most promising for general improvement in gastrointestinal health.
