Claiming VGLI Insurance

In the event of a loved one’s death who was covered under VGLI, you will have to claim their life insurance if you are the beneficiary. Forms can be downloaded on the Department of Veterans Affairs website and printed off. Fill out the SGLV 8283 form for SGLI and VGLI insurance coverage. There is also an option to call the Office of Service Member’s Group Life insurance directly. All of the person’s information will need to be put on this form. There is a list in order of who is eligible and in what order to receive money from the life insurance policy. Proof of death is required unless they died during active duty. Otherwise, a death certificate will need to be submitted. The form can be mailed to the address listed.
