My parents have been living in the same home for over thirty years and they decided that it was time to overhaul the whole house.  They were very excited about giving the house a face lift and with all the new things they would add, they knew that they would also be saving money on their monthly utility bills.  They got new windows first, a new roof and one of the things they got surprised me.  They looked into getting Solar Panels because they found out that they would also help to save on their monthy energy bills.  My parents now have the newest looking home in the neighborhood.
