Pork

In the vast majority of cases out there in this country, raising pigs is done primarily as a means of providing a food product: pork.  In fact, more than ninety five percent of all pigs born in the United States will almost certainly end up butchered and on someone’s dinner plate or in their restaurant’s kitchen.  Pork, popularly billed as “the other white meat” is the nation’s third most popular animal product after both beef and chicken.  However, despite how popular pork is and how it’s often described as a “healthy” alternative to red meat pork is, in fact, more fattening than beef or chicken.  In some instances, pork is actually two or three times as “fatty” and more often than not pork will be higher in both cholesterol and saturated fats.  So the next time you and your loved ones are considering a dinner option, maybe go with the seafood or the chicken and save the pork for a special occasion.
