Thickness for Silky Pole Saw

I have read that the type of trees that I am looking to prune do not have much more than a 12 inch diameter. What I need to know is how much work would it really take if I were to use a Silky Pole Saw when I tried to scale back on the top of the tree. I do not want to figure out when I get to the top that it will take a lot of elbow grease to cut through the branches. I know the saw can cut it, but how much leverage will it take for me to use it correctly?
