If you do not know that Windows comes in a variety of operating systems you probably will not be attempting to edit you registry.   If you are looking for a registry editor make certain that the one you are investing in is set up to work on your own operating system.   Trying to undertake the job with the wrong software can only end up with disastrous results for the user.  If there is any doubt in your mind take your computer to a trained professional and explain the them what your problem.  They will then be able to repair it for you without danger.
